4:16 Naomi took the child, and placed him in her
bosom, and became his nurse.
Unlike the noblewomen who leave their children in the care of servants and only occasionally handle and play with them, Naomi herself nursed, cared for, and played with this child. In addition, she guided him toward righteousness and educated him to serve God. Thus she nurtured him physically and spiritually, just as the women had predicted that he in turn would support her and bring merit to her soul.
There is an opinion that Naomi raised the child because Ruth died. However, according to our sages, Ruth lived to see the child’s great-grandson Solomon sitting on the throne.

16. Naomi then took the child. According to this she became his nurse for he was "her" son and so she took him and became his nurse.
